Creation to Crib!

Equip – A Family Advent Resource

So many of us struggle to find time and energy to reflect on Scripture, especially through the seasons of Advent and Christmas. We would love to take time with stories from the Bible, but sometimes life is too exhausting and our family situation too difficult. Creation to the Crib is a family advent resource that will help people come together to explore more of God’s word through a series of 25 advent reflections tracing the Christmas story all the way from – you’ve guessed it – the creation of the world through to the crib in Bethlehem.

How to use Equip as a family this advent

The best way to use this book is, quite simply, whichever way best works for you. Some of you will prefer a fairly formulaic read-through – beginning with the bible passage and reflection, and choosing one of the ThinkPray, or Do section as a way of putting it into practice. But there are other ways too. Perhaps you might want to begin your day with the Bible Reading and Prayer, and then end it with the reflection. Or, if you’re more of an active person, you might want to focus on the Do section, and maybe read the Bible passage over a cuppa as and when you can.

For those of you who like to spend more time in your Bible, there is a daily Dive Deeper section, with Bible passages linked to the reading for that day. And if you find God in art, you might find the hand drawn illustrations a helpful meditative aid, or you might even wish to create your own daily drawings to hang on a Jesse tree during advent.

For me, it’s a pick and mix approach. It depends on what the day is like, how the children are, and how I’m feeling – one day I might be able to enjoy every part, whereas the next will find me struggling to squeeze a three-minute prayer in. However you enjoy this devotional, I pray that it may be a book which equips you as a saint for the work of ministry. We’d love to see you at our upcoming book launch on August 7th in Shrewsbury!  8pm at Hopefully Coffee, with time to enjoy a drink, nibbles, and chat about the book.  You’ll be able to get your hands on one of the first copies too.  Email me on [email protected] to book your place.
